NK Biosolutions is developing a focused range of seaweed-derived hydrocolloids: Agar and Carrageenan engineered for high-performance food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications.

Note: NK Biosolutions is currently in active development and does not yet have finished, certified products for sale. We are operating in a pre-commercial phase as we scale our technical capabilities.

Products

Agar Product Range (In Development)

Agar-agar remains our flagship development line, representing the pinnacle of our seaweed extraction capabilities. We are engineered high-purity agar fractions derived from native South African Gracilaria, specifically tailored for sophisticated industrial applications.

Food-Grade Agar

Targeting applications in confectionery, dairy, bakery, and plant-based food formulation; designed to meet rigorous standards for gel strength range and thermal stability.

Intended Technical Specifications

  • Target Gel Strength: 700 - 1100 g/cm²
  • Viscosity: 12 - 18 cps (1.5% sol)
  • Ash Content: < 1.0%
  • Particle Size: 80 - 100 mesh

  • Moisture-barrier PE liners

Pharmaceutical-Grade Agar

Targeting microbiological culture media, capsule and tablet applications; designed to meet pharmacopoeia-aligned purity and quality benchmarks.

Intended Technical Specifications

  • Purity: BP/USP Compliance Target
  • Residue on Ignition: < 0.5%
  • Solubility: Grade A Standard
  • Microbial Load: Sterile-processing Ready

Planned Packaging Formats

  • 10kg Clean-room fiber drums
  • Tamper-evident primary seals

Cosmetic-Grade Agar

Targeting use as a natural gelling and stabilising agent in emulsions, gels, and masks; designed for high transparency and clean skin-feel.

Intended Technical Specifications

  • Transparency: > 90% T (1.5% sol)
  • pH Stability: 5.5 - 7.5 range
  • Viscosity Stability: Optimized
  • Odour Profile: Neutral / Ultra-low

Planned Packaging Formats

  • 5kg / 25kg HDPE pails
  • Secondary protective liners

Strategic Product Roadmap

Carrageenan Product Range (Planned Line)

Carrageenan represents our secondary planned product line, currently under active development. We are engineering specific types of carrageenan to provide targeted textural solutions for complex food matrices.

Kappa Carrageenan

Targeting firm gel applications in dairy and meat processing, designed to provide strong, brittle structures and syneresis control.

Formulation, performance validation, and application testing are ongoing for this planned offering.

Iota Carrageenan

Targeting soft, elastic gel applications in dairy desserts and processed meats, offering superior freeze-thaw stability.

In development: Formulation and application performance validation are current ongoing milestones.

Lambda Carrageenan

Targeting non-gelling thickening applications in dairy beverages and sauces, intended to enhance mouthfeel and suspension.

Performance validation and intended application testing are currently ongoing for this planned line.

NK Biosolutions product testing

Our quality control framework spans the entire value chain, from raw seaweed selection and harvest traceability through extraction, purification, drying, and final milling. This integrated approach ensures functional consistency and purity across all development stages.

We are actively working towards food-grade and pharmaceutical-aligned certification standards. Technical dossiers and comprehensive quality documentation will be made available to qualified prospective partners as our specific development milestones are satisfied.
